Eventually

Is it normal to be confused about what to do with your life?
Is it possible to not have an idea of the direction your life is headed?
I wonder if people share this same feeling.

I've heard so many things like, if at this point in your life, you don't know what you want to do then it's sad. You are going nowhere in life.
The truth though is most of us an idea of what we want. I mean, we all know we want to be rich and wealthy and happy and so on...But sometimes we just don't know how to get there.
And sometimes...trying to get there the right way can be really frustrating.
But we don't stop.
We keep going.
We keep discovering day in and day out who we are  and what to do.
It's a slow but steady process and we will eventually figure it out.

EPISODE NINE
I couldn't keep myself from tossing and turning on the bed. It had nothing to do with the mattress, I knew what was wrong with me. It couldn't be true. It felt so unreal. Dead? That word had just one meaning no matter the context it was used in.
But How? It was scary, very scary .I needed to talk to someone. I picked up my phone and tried Dan's line, it rang but he didn't pick. I didn't really want to talk to him about what was going on. I just wanted to talk to him. He was obviously still angry with me.
I called Sheryl.
" Hey babe, what's up?"She was always so lively . " Sheryl." The moment I called her name, the tears that had welled up in my eyes flowed uncontrollably.
" Kate? Kate! What's happening? Kate!"
" He's dead."
"What? Who? Kate! Who's dead?"
" Ifeanyi. The detective. He's dead."
Silence.
I really didn't know if I was crying for someone I hardly knew or for the fact that I was completely helpless without him.
" Kate. Come home. Leave Enugu as soon as you can and come home. Alright?"
I sniffed, " Yeah."
I knew I wasn't going home yet though.

I could not tell if it was the same nurse I had seen the day I came here. I had hardly looked around that day. There were some things I even noticed as I walked into the hospital which I didn't even see on that day.
I know I had told Sheryl I was coming back but I could not. I had to leave no stone unturned in the bid to find out how Lanre was doing . I checked my phone. Dan had not replied my message yet. I had sent it to him like six hours ago. He was obviously still angry. Dan had a way to making a mountain out of a molehill.
"Excuse me"
The nurse at the counter looked up. If she recognised me, she didn't show. She had a bland expression on.
" Yes. How may I help you?"
" I'm looking for a Mr Lanre Williams. He was admitted into this hospital a few weeks ago."
She typed something on a desktop computer and hit enter. She did it again and again. Then she brought out a long notebook.
" When you said a few weeks ago, did you mean in this month or last month? "
" It was May 3rd" I remembered, it was two days to the death of the President.
She smiled. The precision was obviously helpful.
She looked through the note, looked again and then looked again.
" Sorry madam. There's no record of him."
I was too shocked to say anything. I'm sure she saw the shock on my face before she said,
" Let me check the file cabinet but I doubt I'll find anything on him. Just grab a seat"
"Alright. Thanks. "
I sat down and tried not to worry. Didn't Ifeanyi tell me that Lanre was to be transferred? This could possibly be why this was happening. Deep down however, I knew it didn't make sense. Irrespective of that, there was supposed to be a record of Lanre.
She returned, her expression still bland, but I could read into it this time around.
She had found nothing.
" It doesn't make sense, I was here a few weeks ago, he was brought in by the police, I think his room was on the fourth floor or so. Yes. It was the fourth floor. He even had surgery. "
The nurse looked at me with sympathy, she was obviously a nice person.
" Alright, can you remember the name of the doctor that was assigned to him?"
I thought and thought.
" Yes. Ermmm...Doctor Chuks." Ifeanyi had introduced me to him that day.
The nurse's expression suddenly changed.
" Doctor Chuks is no longer here."
" What?"
She brought down her voice," He's in jail."
" Huh? Why?"
" Madam, I don't know the details but it has something to do with malpractice. A patient died on his watch."
This really didn't make sense.
" It was discovered that he was administering the wrong medication to the patient after the patient died."
I was still confused.
" Files from his previous cases were taken and are being investigated. I don't really know myself. It's just so strange I have a strong feeling that something isn't right...oh! Forgive my manners." she kept quiet immediately , she figured out that she had said too much already.
I looked intently at the woman and noticed that she would be a good gossip.
" Is that why I can't find anything on Lanre?" I asked.
" Not at all. We still have all our records intact. Are you sure the person was admitted here?"
I was worried now and I could feel anger setting in.
" Can I at least see anybody in charge. Someone who can help me find who I'm looking for?"
She smiled, the bland expression was on again "Definitely, just grab a seat. Let me make a quick phone call "
I stood. I couldn't sit. If what she was saying was true and there was no record of Lanre whatsoever and Detective Ifeanyi was dead, then this just got scarier.

EPISODE EIGHT

I had made up my mind to go to Enugu. Things were getting out of hand. Detective Ifeanyi had gone mute all of a sudden. I couldn't reach him and I didn't have the contact of any of his colleagues, the only way to unravel the mystery was to travel to Enugu.
However, with Dan's presence, I knew it wouldn't be easy to just get up and leave. I had to look for a perfect excuse. So I did. I told Dan I had to go meet some business partners in Abuja. I couldn't tell him it was Enugu because I knew he would definitely figure it out.
" Abuja?"
"Uhuh." I replied as I wiped LJ's mouth. "LJ, you literally bath yourself with the food, since you won't let anyone feed you. Now I need to bath you again "
I carried LJ to the tub. He didn't need a bath. I just wanted to use that as a medium to end the conversation. Dan however, wasn't about to make it easy for me .
He followed me to the bathroom, " Do you really have to go? And must it be tomorrow?"
"Yes babe. I have to."
" Can't you just send Cletus? You've hardly had time to recover from all the stress of last week. I'm not in support of this journey at all. Just send Cletus."
LJ was having fun in the tub, so I came out of the bathroom. I knew we might end up getting angry at each other and I didn't want LJ seeing that.
" I can't send Cletus. I need to go myself. Why are being so adamant about my not going? "
"Well, maybe it's because I don't think it's Abuja you are going to. "
"What? Wait you mean you think I'm lying to you?"
Dan laughed, it was actually sarcastic. " Come on Kate, I know you are. You want to go to Enugu and follow up on that Lanre case. It's obvious. I asked you to leave it alone. I thought we had an agreement. "
I knew the truth had been found out but I wasn't going to accept defeat.
" You have got to be kidding me. How can you say that? Why would I lie to you . I'm going to Abuja."
Dan ran his hand through his hair, " Fine. I believe you. Have you booked a flight already?"
I nodded.
" Well then, I guess I'll know the truth when I see you off tomorrow "
I was frowning now," What! Oh my God!!! You are impossible. You know what? I don't need you to see me off. In fact, I don't want you to. I can't deal with this now. You can choose to believe what you want. " I walked out on him and went back to LJ but I knew I had just opened an injury that would hurt my family if I didn't contain it.

I left for Enugu the next day. Dan left the house early in the morning before I left and switched off his phone,so I couldn't reach him. He had slept in another room the previous night. I had to take LJ to Sheryl's before I left.
I got to Enugu before mid day and settled in a hotel. I really didn't know where to start from, but I didn't want to waste anytime . I still couldn't reach Detective Ifeanyi but I had his card. So, I decided to go to the address on the card.

I didn't find it difficult locating the police station. It was close to a car park, right in the heart of the city. However, I was very sure the cab driver ripped me off.
I walked across the compound towards the entrance of the building. I could see the Nigerian flag standing tall on a pole on the roof of the building. The compound was neat but filled with cars men in uniform sitting and laughing, who just looked at me and nodded a reply to my greeting.
I got into the building and saw to a woman in uniform who stood at the other side of a thick short wall that demarcated the hall into two. There were two officers handling two young men who looked pitiful also there.
" Mme osiso, no waste my time here abeg. Remof all those tins una dey wear" one of the officers said in a high and deep voice that resounded across the room, causing fear in the hearts of everyone, except the woman, who just sat on a stool and went through a long note book.
I summoned courage and walked up to her
" Good afternoon officer. "
The lady who was obviously in her mid thirties, just looked up from the book she was writing in, nodded and continued with what she was doing. It was obviously the norm here.
" Excuse me, I'm actually looking for someone "
She raised her head," When was the person arrested? "
"Ermmmm...not an inmate actually, I..."
" Madam, talk fast" she said impatiently.
" Detective Ifeanyi. He gave me his card some weeks ago. I've been trying to reach him but his line has been switched off."
She looked intently at me but said nothing.
" Why are you looking for him?" she finally asked.
"Well, I need his help urgently"
She closed the book, " Follow me "
She led me through a passage with offices on both sides. The passage was quite large and we were almost at the end of the passage when she stopped in front of a door, knocked and entered, I followed quickly but I was fast enough to get the name of the individual whose office we just entered and it wasn't Detective Ifeanyi.
The lady greeted the man who sat on his desk looking through a newspaper. He was obviously in his mid fifties. Very close to retirement. Had glasses on, dark, huge and handsome. Unlike most guys his age, he didn't have a pot belly, obviously worked out a lot.As I studied him, she explained to to him why I had come and then left the room. He offered me a chair.
" I'm Mr Muo .You are welcome, Miss ermmmm..."
" Davis"
" Davis? Are you not a Nigerian? "
I smiled, " I most definitely am"
"Where are you from? "
" Imo state"
He shook his head. " No offence, but it's just sad to see how the Ibos are losing touch with their culture. How can your surname be Davis. Wait! Are you married to a white man?"
I was getting uncomfortable but I decided to play along if it helped me get what I wanted.
" No. I'm not "
"Hmmm...it's a pity. Anyway, Beatrice said you came to look for Ifeanyi right?"
"Yes"
He took off his glasses and wiped the lens
" What's your relationship with him?"
I wasn't sure I wanted to tell him " We are friends. He helped me out some few weeks back. He gave me his card, so I just wanted to stop by to thank him."
The man smiled, " So typical of him. Well...I think you need to brace yourself up for what I'm about to tell you.
I sat down and paid abrupt attention.

A Thai flight was cancelled on Sunday after a passenger made a joke about a bomb while loading his hand-carry in the overhead locker.
While a flight stewardess was helping him with his bag, 23-year-old Pichit Boondaeng told her to be careful, as there might be a bomb in his case, say local reports.  This caused a lot of panic because he repeated it several times...
The Lion Air stewardess alerted the captain, who canceled the afternoon domestic flight from Bangkok to Hai Yai, and ordered the passengers to disembark.

Boondaeng was later taken in for questioning at a police station at Bangkok's Don Mueang airport.
Boondaeng reportedly told the police that he made the joke in an attempt to flirt with the flight attendant.
Security experts found no explosives inside his bag.

EPISODE SEVEN

Dan arrived on Friday, like he said he would. I took LJ with me to the airport to welcome him. I really didn't have to go to the airport but I missed Dan and so did LJ, we were too eager to see him.
LJ was the first to see him. He came down from the bench we were sitting on and ran towards him, while, I slowly followed him. As he approached, Dan whisked him up and hugged him tightly. The scene was so emotional. There was no doubt that this was one of the reasons if not the ultimate reason for my decision to be with Dan. He and LJ had a special bond, a wonderful relationship.
LJ whispered something into his his ears as I got closer.
" You guys are already gossiping? Wow!!"
"Well...LJ just gave me a piece of information that I consider very helpful. Give me five boy!!"
LJ hit his palm and smiled.
"Alright then, maybe I'll just go back and both of you can take a cab or trek home"
They both laughed at my remark. Dan put LJ down and pulled me close. I allowed myself sink into his embrace . It had been a month since this happened. I really missed him.

The drive home was cheerful. Dan and LJ occupied themselves with a conversation that made little or no sense to me. I was just satisfied seeing my boys happy and smiling. However, twenty minutes away from the house, LJ fell asleep in his usual manner,in Dan's arms . He had refused to seat in the baby seat, so Dan carried him. It gave me an opportunity to start a conversation with Dan.
" So how was the trip entirely? "
" Oh bae, it was hectic. These white guys are becoming more difficult these days. You can hardly convince them to invest in anything again. However, we were able to get a breakthrough. "
I smiled, " They are just trying to be careful. You know we don't really have a good image internationally. It's terrible. Even among fellow African countries. We are seen as fraudsters. I don't really blame them."
Dan nodded, " You know the most annoying thing? Ever since the 2009 terrorist attempt by Umar on the United States, it hasn't been easy for Nigerians. Every Nigerian is now a suspect of terrorism."
I stopped the car to buy a bunch of plantain from a street hawker. A young child of about thirteen years. I could never imagine myself allowing LJ do this no matter the situation. These children risked their lives everyday to earn money that would be used by some parents to gamble and drink. It was a awful situation.
"How much b dis wan?"
" na 300 ma"
I knew it was less than 300. The young girl obviously saw the car and decided to increase the price. I allowed myself to be cheated and gave her a 500 naira note. I was about to collect the change when on second thoughts, I told her to keep it and drove away.
Dan smiled at me, " That was sweet. "
I blushed, " I guess so."

That night, I told Dan about Lanre. He found it hard to believe me. His shock was obviously much more than mine when I found out. It made me feel uncomfortable. Once I told him about Lanre, he jumped out of the bed in shock and surprise. His eyes suddenly turned red which only happened when he was angry. He asked if I had contacted him and when I told him I had lost touch with his current whereabouts he calmed down a little.
" I'm just worried about you. I know how much it took for you to get over him. I don't want you back in that position. " He said some few minutes later, after he had calmed down.
" I love you dearly K. It was horrible for us back then. I just don't want that to happen again. "
I smiled. However, there was something about his reaction that didn't feel right. It was just suspicious.

SO IT'S YOUR WEDDING?

There are so many things that are put into a wedding to make it work.
We are talking from the bridesmaids to the groomsmen, the decoration, choosing the right colors, the cake, the bouquet, the makeup, the gown and of course the ring.
*winks*
The stress of planning a mega wedding can never be over estimated but at the end of the day, when you sit back and watch that video or go through the pictures, you find out that it was definitely worth it.
