This year, we’ve heard a series of announcements from Apple and Google, but other than Windows 10, we haven’t heard of any significant announcements from Microsoft. So with an event coming up in a few hours, what could we expect?
Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL
We’ve been expecting an update to the Lumia line-up of devices over the past few months. Among these are the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950XL devices. Among the various innovations to be introduced in these devices are an Iris scanner as well as wireless charging.
From what we know so far, the Lumia 950 will reportedly sport a 5.2-inch display with 2560 x 1440 pixels of resolution. Under the hood, we expect a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor coupled with 3GB RAM, 20-megapixel rear snapper, 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 32GB storage and a 3,000mAh battery.
The larger, 950 XL or Cityman, is likely to come with a 5.7-inch display, and almost a similar set of specs. Apart from the larger display, some other differentiating specs will be an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor and a 3,300mAh battery. Going by some previous reports, both will feature USB Type-C and come dipped in Matte white or black polycarbonate.
Windows 10
The new Lumia devices are known to run Windows 10, which will be unveiled at the event tomorrow. Since the launch of Windows 10 by Microsoft on 29 July, there’s has been no information on number of users who upgraded and the percentage of users who are on Microsoft’s latest operating system.
Similarly, Windows loyalists have been eagerly waiting for the device strategy to unfold with Windows 10. Tomorrow’s event is expected to finally unveil how Windows 10 will work on its mobile devices.
Surface Pro 4
After Apple and Google announced Surface-esque devices in the form of the iPad Pro and Pixel C, respectively, an upgrade to the Surface Pro lineup is imminent. At tomorrow’s Microsoft event, we expect the company to release the Surface Pro 4. From what we know so far, the Surface Pro 4 will be identical to the Surface Pro 3 from a looks and build point of view. It is speculated to come with some improvements such as a larger display, Windows Hello support, a refined keyboard and a fingerprint scanner.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 3
There is a possibility that Microsoft will also launch a 14-inch version of the Surface Pro as well.
Microsoft Band 2
In the run-up to the 6 October event, leaks of the latest Microsoft Band 2 emerged.
According to a report, the new device codenamed ‘Envoy’ sports a metallic finish towards the front panel along with physical buttons as well. The Verge confirms that the tracker will feature a curved face like the device shown in the renders, though it doesn’t confirm the authenticity of the images.
With just a day to go, we don’t have to wait too long to know what Microsoft plans to announce.
