Tips to Choosing the Perfect Engagement Ring

Deciding that you want to ask that someone special to marry you is one of the biggest and most important decisions you will ever make in your life. Before you can make that leap though, you have to look for the perfect engagement ring to help with the proposal. Since many men are on their own when it comes to finding the right ring, they often need a bit of help and guidance along the way. It does not have to be as difficult an experience as many men feel it will be, and the following tips should help.

know her size and taste

The first, and one of the most important steps, is to know here taste and style. Whenever you are buying any type of jewelry, knowing her fashion sense is essential. If you do not know much about style of jewelry, you can always ask her family and friends. However, if you do plan to ask someone, make sure you can trust that person to keep quiet about the impending proposal and engagement ring. You do not want to ruin the surprise.
In addition to the style, it is a good idea to know her ring size, so you do not have to resize the ring later. Making a soap or clay impression of one of the rings she wears is a good idea to figure out the size. If you are unsure, buy a size that’s larger than you would likely need, as it is easier to drop a size than to add a size.

Know the Terms

When buying a diamond engagement ring, it helps to know some of the terms you will encounter, namely the cut, carat, color, and clarity of the diamond. At their most basic level, the cut refers to the actual facets in the diamond the help it to reflect light, the carat is the weight of the diamond, the clarity measures the internal flaws, and the color grade lets you know if the diamond is entirely clear or has a yellowish or brown tint to it.

Find a Great Jeweler

You must also find a great jeweler when buying a diamond engagement ring. Make sure you are working with a seller that you know and can trust. If you’ve never bought jewelry before, research the company to make sure they have a good and honest reputation in the field.
