a commercial music streaming, podcast and video service has announced
that Thinking Out Loud, a soft romantic ballad by English
singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran, has become the most streamed song on its
platform.
The song, which appeared on Ed’s album,
x, became the first to hit 500 million streams on Spotify and has
currently been streamed over half a billion times.
Spotify estimates that one in four users
on its platform listens to Ed’s song at least once per month, and his
songs have been streamed about 2.9million times, which makes him the
second most-streamed artist behind heavyweight rapper, Eminem.
In celebration of this milestone, Spotify released the Sheerio Index, which contains a world map showing the countries where people listen to him the most.
“Being the first artist to hit that
milestone is amazing. Thanks to all the people who use this as a wedding
song, soundtrack to a date, and as a way to woo someone into a
Netflix-and-chill situation,” Ed Sheeran told Spotify.
Spotify, founded in 2006 and
headquartered in London, UK and Stockholm, Sweden, is an active music
streaming service that currently boast over 75 million users and
available on virtually all mobile platforms either as a web or native
app.
